Gua Sha is a traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medical treatment in which the skin is scraped to stimulate lymph and blood flow. Practitioners believe that Gua Sha releases unhealthy bodily matter from blood stasis within sore, tired, stiff or injured muscle areas to stimulate new oxygenated blood flow to the areas, thus promoting metabolic cell repair, regeneration, healing and recovery. This technique can assist in the breakdown of scar tissue and tenderize muscles.
The immune system and Lymphatic system are intimately connected, so it's essential that the Lymphatic fluid is moving in order to carry away waste, toxins and excess hormones, and help with preventative immune care.
Gua Sha can be done on any part of the body. I love massaging my face with these tools, it helps to tonify, tighten and lift the skin, as well as remove puffiness, edema and dark circles.
~The edge of the Gua Sha is vigorously rubbed along the skin, moving from feet to heart and hands to heart. There is more emphasis on the stroke towards the heart, moving the lymph in the direction of the heart.
~This technique can cause temporary bruising of the skin due to the toxins being released. Overtime this bruising should subside, as the tissues will become more toned and the toxins released.
-The Gua Sha can be used with water in the shower, steam room or bath tub. When done after Abhyanga (body oilination) the body is nice and oiled, driving the nutrients from the oil deep into the tissues. You can also use the Gua Sha over clothing.
Gua Sha is perfectly paired with the Lymph Love Body Oil for extra Lymph support, or if used on the face, the Rejuvenating Rose Facial Serum.
